Low Sodium salt

Sodium chloride is the Table salt which we can't live without.
Salt regulates the fluid balance in the body and regulates the electrical signaling in the nervous system.Too little salt in the diet can cause dizziness and fluid imbalance .
The recommended salt intake differs slightly depending on the age group of a person and the country one belongs to . But 2200 mg of Sodium in a day is the upper limit .This includes the sodium from all the food sources.
Increased Sodium levels in the diet cause kidney trouble, heart problems and water retention in the body. There is a direct relation between high blood pressure and increased salt intake. So it is always better to decrease the salt intake in the food.
There are low sodium salts available under different brand names in the market. These substitutes taste almost like salt but the sodium content is low.It is because the sodium chloride is substituted with Potassium chloride. The most common additive in table salt is the anti caking agents to make the salt more free flowing. This could be Magnesium carbonate or other agents in permissible amounts.Iodides  and fluorides are also known additives in special salts.
Since Potassium chloride is also essential in the body and sometimes used to replenish electrolytes  -it is thought to be safe for replacing the sodium in the table  salt. However it is quite bitter and  not salty and has to be mixed again with other additives to make it more palatable.Over dosage of Potassium chloride can lead to severe consequences and people suffering from hyperkalemia should not try using the low sodium salt.It is always better to consult a doctor before switching over to the substitute salt.
Avoiding pickled items in the diet ,chips, fast foods, processed foods and eating more boiled vegetables(without salt of course) and adding lemon and herbs to improve the taste are natural ways to decrease the salt intake in our food.It is very important to accept the salt- less  taste of the vegetables and enjoy their true taste.

What's in a name?

The exact number of  the species of proper plants existing on Earth is unknown but the rough estimate is 3 lakh and 22 thousand and still counting.
A thorough research is done on each plant and it is named after following some meticulous rules. So every known plant has one or more complicated scientific / Latin names.
Luckily so much of careful consideration does not go into naming a local plant.A plant can have many  regional names based on its appearance or characteristics. The Powder puff tree and the  Bottle brush tree are the names  in my mind right now.
.So going by the Shakespearean quote by Juliet
 " What's in a name?
That we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet"  , the grouping of letters to form a name may not be as important as knowing the name itself.
Knowing the name is the basis for any  kind of interaction. It is the first step in creating a feeling of empathy.I am making an effort to know  the local names of the medley of plants I see  often . I  hope to meet some  kindred friends along the way.

Tips for reducing eye strain and the 20-20-20 rule.

Eye strain is becoming increasingly common these days because of the routine use of computers. This can even lead to  CVS or the computer vision syndrome which include many symptoms like blurred vision ,headaches neck pain and dry eyes.

There are task specific glasses available which are meant for various activities where people need to focus uninterruptedly on something particular for a long periods of time. People who work on embroidery designs ,shooters  and pianists find these prescription glasses useful.Computer glasses help people who have to focus on the computer screen  for long hours.
These are some simple things one can try to reduce the eye strain.

  • Focus on something which is at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds every 20 minutes. This will relax the ciliary muscles of the eye.
  • Closing eyes for 20 seconds every 20 minutes will also help.
  • Scanning the entire room  from a corner and focus on all the objects in the edge of the room will increase the fluidity and flexibility of the eyes.
  • Looking out through a window and focus on something far off.

The eye is a very delicate and complicated organ where many parts of the eye and the brain have to work in concert for a good vision . Taking good care of them would be the wise thing to do.

Dental Hygiene is Essential for Diabeties

The progression of diabetes (adult) is as fast as alarming as this syndrome characterized by abnormal use of insulin and high blood glucose levels that trigger circulatory problems, kidney or eye, is closely associated with the relentless growth of urban areas, where residents reduce the exercise and diet based on consumption of foods rich in fats, sugars and proteins.

If you have diabetes, be sure to take care of your oral health. People with diabetes are at risk for mouth infections, including gum disease (periodontal disease). This disease damages the gums and jaw bones (whose function is to hold the teeth in place) and can cause much pain when chewing. Those people with serious gum disease lose their teeth. Gum disease may also hinder the control of sugar (glucose) levels.

Other problems caused by diabetes are a condition known as dry mouth or dry mouth, and an infection called thrush. Dry mouth occurs when there is not enough saliva (the fluid that keeps the mouth moist.) Furthermore, diabetes can increase the level of glucose in the saliva. The combination of these problems may lead to thrush, sores small white patches in the mouth that are painful.

It is important to healthy teeth and gums. To control the level of glucose in the blood and prevent gum disease, it is important to brush and floss every day and be tested periodically. If diabetes is not under control, the possibility of having problems in your mouth increases.

If you have diabetes, take the following measures:
Controls the level of glucose in the blood.
Brush and floss every day.
See your dentist regularly. Do not forget your dentist you have diabetes.
Tell your dentist if your dentures (false teeth) do not fit right, or if you hurt your gums.
Stop smoking. Smoking worsens gum disease. The doctor or dentist can help you quit smoking.

Take a few minutes to inspect your mouth regularly for any problems. Sometimes, your gums bleed when brushing or flossing. You may also notice dryness, soreness, white patches or a bad taste in the mouth. Any of these reasons to visit the dentist.

Remember, adequate control of blood glucose will help prevent mouth problems. When a person who is diagnosed with diabetes takes responsibility for the disease on their hands and go to a competent physician, is sure to suffer no complications. We have enough drugs to keep blood sugar levels, cholesterol and blood pressure, so that to achieve good control of this disease in our time possible, without forgetting the most important thing is not self-medicate and always consult your physician for any start-up, change or adjustment to treatment.

How to Control Hypertension

High blood pressure is a bad irreversible in the bloodstream smaller arteries become narrowed or general lose their elasticity, which forces the heart to pump harder to supply blood to all organs. If you are diagnosed with this condition, we have several suggestions to avoid undesirable problems.

Hypertension may have unknown causes, but may also be due to the accumulation of fat in blood vessels, constant stress situations and anxiety, sedentary lifestyle (low physical activity and high intake of fats and carbohydrates), excessive salt, snuff and alcohol, lack of exercise or kidney ailments and diabetes.

This disease, which is also called the "silent murderer" because it causes no symptoms and generates recognized until serious health problems or through a general review (often to diagnose other diseases) is considered by many specialists incurable, but if it is an appropriate treatment under medical supervision can be controlled and allow the affected have a normal life.

Some suggestions:
1. Monitor your blood pressure regularly, without obsessing, ensuring that this review is always at the same time and under similar conditions
2. Practicing proper exercise to age, since this activity promotes good blood circulation, helps to achieve adequate oxygenation and elimination of fats, plus it strengthens the heart.
3. Eliminate unhealthy habits associated with the condition, such as alcohol and snuff, as they are stimulants that accelerate the heart rate and promote hypertension.
4. Decrease salt intake if your doctor advises, this is because large doses of sodium causing water retention, thereby increasing blood volume and strength with which the heart must pump blood, causing high blood pressure.
5. Changing eating habits: they increase consumption of vegetables (rich in potassium, calcium and magnesium are minerals that help eliminate sodium) and high-fiber foods like fruits nuts (favor the elimination of cholesterol before entering bloodstream), while it will reduce the consumption of red meat, rich in saturated fat, and replaced with white meats, especially fish, also eradicate high cholesterol, as viscera and egg. It is highly recommended to follow a diet like the Mediterranean, which is based on olive oil, whole grains, vegetables and other products that protect the heart.
6. Lose weight, because even modest reductions are beneficial to reduce cholesterol levels and feel better overall. Avoid heavy food and limit intake of carbohydrates (desserts, pasta, and bread) and fat.
7. Regular tension and stress, as both are causes of hypertension should seek a quiet life to be better controlled and, if necessary, will use strategies or relaxation routines: lying or sitting, take a deep breath 3 or 5 times, and gradually relax in legs, trunk, arms, head and neck, thinking of a color that helps to calm (usually green or blue).
8. Take timely medicines your doctor prescribes strict accordance with the times and doses indicated, never abandon the treatment (although the values have to take the pressure back to normal), except order specialist.
The drugs prescribed to lower blood pressure through different mechanisms:
Elimination of excess water and salt through the urine.
Inhibition mechanism that triggers stress (adrenergic blockers).
Dilation of arteries in order to increase the space through which blood circulates.

9. Determine accurately the actual levels of blood cholesterol, through laboratory tests performed by the physician. Excess fat reduces the ability of vessel elasticity and promotes greater force of contraction of the heart.

10. Going to the family doctor regularly for it to follow the evolution of the disease, as well as answer questions and provide new information of interest. During the visit, the patients report any strange circumstance that may appear during treatment.

As can be seen, these simple measures, carried out steadily, satisfactorily achieve its goal quickly and allow carrying out a normal life. People with hypertension, with some exceptions, do not have to restrict their activities if they have good control.

Why hair loss

Its medical name is alopecia, and popularly known as baldness. Around it there are plenty of myths that refer to intelligence, virility and even senility. Few are those who come to the truth but in reality, how much we know about baldness?

Incredibly, the hormone that in humans generates hair growth beard, mustache and chest is the same that causes hair loss. His name is testosterone and is responsible for indicating to the hair follicles (hairs producers throughout the body) when working or not. So it may come a time when giving the order to halt production on the head and no more hair.

This type of behavior is inherited, and against it there is very little to do. However, scholars of the issue recognize that there are some actions you can take when the factors are different genetic causes:
1. Avoid stress. Some scientific research indicates that the stress and anxiety are factors leading to hair loss. Therefore, it is best to avoid these emotional states that appear frequently.

2. Include protein in your diet. The red and white meats and fish, like dairy and egg proteins that strengthen the hair follicles.

3. Increase the iron in their diet. This and other minerals (mainly zinc and selenium) are important for your hair is not weakened. So eat chard, spinach, lettuce and other leafy greens.

4. Do not abuse it. The hair may be weakened by the frequent use of dryers and electric curlers. We recommend dry with a towel, passing slightly damp hair. Brushing is not the most violent stated, as if what is untangle gently with fingers and then move the comb in a sensitive manner.

5. Beware of chemicals. Dyes and bleaches the hair attack, and after long time use it become weak, thin and brittle. This is all enriching the scalp treatment containing natural products (oils of almond, castor and olive, etc.).

6. Do not be afraid to wash daily. Hygiene is vital for healthy hair. It is therefore important to use the type of shampoo according to their condition (dry, oily, normal). Those containing protein or collagen formula providing protection to the damaged hair.

There are many market remedies claim to prevent hair loss, but in many cases make the problem worse. So, very carefully, the solution may be worse than the disease.

Why Weight loss Diets Fail

"Lose up to 6 kilos per week", "@ flat in 3 days" or "reduce 4 sizes per month," are some of the false promises that are sold in many diets that bombard us through radio, television, magazines or Internet (many of them supported by "personalities" rather than by nutritionists), which do not possess the minimum requirements of a full and balanced, plus it does not promote physical activity and healthy habits.

Every day we receive information on diets that promise to reduce body weight in a short time, but very few offer real and lasting results. This is because they do not incorporate healthy changes in lifestyle and have many restrictions.

Fat diets!
That's right. Although this sentence seems absurd, since what is looking to reductive diets to lose weight and not increase, evidence obtained by the experts point to the opposite direction. After all, have you wondered why after following a diet low in fat and carbohydrates lost weight is regained and even earn kilos?

"By having such restrictive regimes not only lose fat, but muscle and water, which reduce the body's ability to burn calories. In fact, there is evidence that well-developed muscles burn more calories and, after following strict diet, reducing their size and thereby makes the consumption of energy.

Why not work?
In their attempt to lose weight, many people go wildly from one diet to another, and often abandon them multiple times. According to the endocrinologist, this is due to:
The meal plans are very restrictive and boring, so the temptation to return to old habits.
Regimes that do not allow certain foods (carbohydrates, fats or proteins) are unhealthy.
Diets that drastically cut calories or relying on food (precise and lists) usually work in the short term, but once the goal is reached, the patient does not have a nutritional plan for the rest of life, which brings back the kilos.

Ultimate goal of weight loss is to change such habits and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, which means that should be included balanced diet and exercise on a daily basis, tailored to each individual. The weight loss diet alone is not more than a short term solution.

Eat Well
We realize that the only way to eat a suitable diet that results in beneficial and lasting results, without exhausting and without feeling the need to shed the weight loss plan was to change harmful habits. "It is best to identify food and educating people, which can only be achieved with the help of specialists.

If you think you should lose weight, consult with an endocrinologist or nutritionist, who will assess how many kilos have to spend, will design a personalized nutritional program will help raise awareness about the proper way to eat. Stay away from crash diets and opt for healthy lifestyle not only allows you to lose weight, but improve their health and quality of life.
