How to Control Hypertension

High blood pressure is a bad irreversible in the bloodstream smaller arteries become narrowed or general lose their elasticity, which forces the heart to pump harder to supply blood to all organs. If you are diagnosed with this condition, we have several suggestions to avoid undesirable problems.

Hypertension may have unknown causes, but may also be due to the accumulation of fat in blood vessels, constant stress situations and anxiety, sedentary lifestyle (low physical activity and high intake of fats and carbohydrates), excessive salt, snuff and alcohol, lack of exercise or kidney ailments and diabetes.

This disease, which is also called the "silent murderer" because it causes no symptoms and generates recognized until serious health problems or through a general review (often to diagnose other diseases) is considered by many specialists incurable, but if it is an appropriate treatment under medical supervision can be controlled and allow the affected have a normal life.

Some suggestions:
1. Monitor your blood pressure regularly, without obsessing, ensuring that this review is always at the same time and under similar conditions
2. Practicing proper exercise to age, since this activity promotes good blood circulation, helps to achieve adequate oxygenation and elimination of fats, plus it strengthens the heart.
3. Eliminate unhealthy habits associated with the condition, such as alcohol and snuff, as they are stimulants that accelerate the heart rate and promote hypertension.
4. Decrease salt intake if your doctor advises, this is because large doses of sodium causing water retention, thereby increasing blood volume and strength with which the heart must pump blood, causing high blood pressure.
5. Changing eating habits: they increase consumption of vegetables (rich in potassium, calcium and magnesium are minerals that help eliminate sodium) and high-fiber foods like fruits nuts (favor the elimination of cholesterol before entering bloodstream), while it will reduce the consumption of red meat, rich in saturated fat, and replaced with white meats, especially fish, also eradicate high cholesterol, as viscera and egg. It is highly recommended to follow a diet like the Mediterranean, which is based on olive oil, whole grains, vegetables and other products that protect the heart.
6. Lose weight, because even modest reductions are beneficial to reduce cholesterol levels and feel better overall. Avoid heavy food and limit intake of carbohydrates (desserts, pasta, and bread) and fat.
7. Regular tension and stress, as both are causes of hypertension should seek a quiet life to be better controlled and, if necessary, will use strategies or relaxation routines: lying or sitting, take a deep breath 3 or 5 times, and gradually relax in legs, trunk, arms, head and neck, thinking of a color that helps to calm (usually green or blue).
8. Take timely medicines your doctor prescribes strict accordance with the times and doses indicated, never abandon the treatment (although the values have to take the pressure back to normal), except order specialist.
The drugs prescribed to lower blood pressure through different mechanisms:
Elimination of excess water and salt through the urine.
Inhibition mechanism that triggers stress (adrenergic blockers).
Dilation of arteries in order to increase the space through which blood circulates.

9. Determine accurately the actual levels of blood cholesterol, through laboratory tests performed by the physician. Excess fat reduces the ability of vessel elasticity and promotes greater force of contraction of the heart.

10. Going to the family doctor regularly for it to follow the evolution of the disease, as well as answer questions and provide new information of interest. During the visit, the patients report any strange circumstance that may appear during treatment.

As can be seen, these simple measures, carried out steadily, satisfactorily achieve its goal quickly and allow carrying out a normal life. People with hypertension, with some exceptions, do not have to restrict their activities if they have good control.
